Help & FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about subscriptions, digital access, orders, and delivery.
Subscriptions
What does a Communio subscription include?
Each subscription term includes four issues. You may choose Print + Digital or Print-only delivery.
What is the difference between Print + Digital and Print-only?
Print + Digital subscriptions include four print issues together with digital access through Project MUSE. Print-only subscriptions include the four print issues but do not include Project MUSE access.
When does my subscription begin?
A new subscription begins with the current issue and includes four issues in all.
Managing Your Subscription
How do I change my mailing address?
Sign in to My Account and update your shipping address. Communio will use your current shipping address for the delivery of your print issues.
Where can I manage my subscription?
Sign in to My Account to view your subscription and the account options available for it.
How do I turn off automatic renewal?
Sign in to My Account and open your subscription. Choose Turn off automatic renewal and confirm the change. Your current subscription will remain active through the end of the term you have already paid for.
What happens if I turn off automatic renewal?
You will continue to receive the remaining print issues included in your current term, and any digital access included with your subscription will continue through the end of that paid term. You will not be charged automatically for another term.
Does turning off automatic renewal cancel my current subscription or give me a refund?
No. Turning off automatic renewal prevents the next renewal. It does not end your current paid subscription and does not automatically create a refund for the remaining portion of the current term.
Can I turn automatic renewal back on?
Yes. If you have turned off automatic renewal, you may turn it back on before the end of your current paid term.
Digital Access
How do I activate my digital access?
After Communio receives your Print + Digital subscription, our staff will arrange your access through Project MUSE, normally within a few days. Project MUSE will then send you an email with instructions for activating your MUSE account and signing in. You must open that email and follow the instructions in it in order to access Communio’s digital archive.
Does a Print-only subscription include digital access?
No. Digital access through Project MUSE is included with Print + Digital subscriptions. Print-only subscriptions include print delivery only.
How much of the Communio archive is available digitally?
Digital access currently extends back through 2019. We are continuing to work toward making earlier years from the Communio archive available digitally as well.
Student Subscriptions
Who qualifies for a student subscription?
Student subscriptions are available to current students enrolled at a high school, college, or university.
Do I need to provide proof of student status?
Normally, no. Student subscriptions operate on an honor system, and subscribers are asked to confirm that they are currently enrolled as students. In some cases, Communio staff may ask for additional verification, such as an active school email address or a copy of a current student ID.
Institutional Subscriptions & Digital Access
How does digital access work for an institutional subscription?
Print + Digital institutional subscriptions include access to Communio through Project MUSE. To establish institutional access, the institution must provide Communio with the IP address or IP address ranges from which its users will access MUSE.
How should an institution update its IP addresses?
Project MUSE asks institutions to use theIPregistry.org to help maintain and verify institutional IP addresses. Institutions can register there, confirm the IP addresses currently associated with their institution, and submit additions or removals when their IP information changes.
The registry is free for libraries and allows verified IP updates to be distributed to participating publishers and platforms, including Project MUSE.
Individual Issues & Shipping
Can I purchase an individual issue without subscribing?
Yes. Individual issues may be purchased separately when available.
Is shipping included when I purchase an individual issue?
No. Shipping for separately purchased issues is charged in addition to the issue price. Communio works hard to keep shipping costs for customers to a minimum.
